Kelly Combs
Choir Member
A native of Calvert County, Mrs. Combs is enjoying her 21st year teaching sweet, sweet harmonies and creating overly ambitious mash-ups for the choral students of Calvert High School. She graduated as a vocal performance music major from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, where she got her start as the vocal director for one of the student-led a cappella groups and later earned her Master’s Degree in Music Education from Boston University.
As an educator, she has been involved with the Maryland Choral Educators Association as an All State chaperone, assistant manager, audition site chair, adjudicator and workshop presenter, and served as the assistant manager for the MENC All Eastern Honor Choir, under the encouragement of her mentor, Mr. Dan Boyer. Her students have been extremely well represented in honor choir opportunities and received Superior ratings at MD State Choral Performance Assessments. Under her direction, Cavalier choirs have performed in Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, been twice been voted as finalists in the 97.1 High School Choir competition and appeared as back-up singers for the rock group, Foreigner, but are mostly renowned for their 4-part harmony serenades honoring the staff members of CHS on their birthdays—(shout out to Ms. Kuzmick!). 😊
